Summer is getting closer, vaccinations are being got, and it's time to party (safely still, of course). Having turned 21 last winter, you know... in the height of closures and such, I feel like it’s finally my time to shine. So, I’ve put together the trendiest of bar-hop lists- Kansas City style. Read through for a run down on the most instagrammable stops, the customer service extraordinaires, new remodels, and my go-to drink at each spot!

Happy sippin to you!

Alma Mader Brewing

Afternoon

Located on Southwest Blvd., Alma Mader Brewing is a best kept secret and is so deserving of the press. With a newly remodeled tasting room and delicious bubbly lagers, you’ll be obsessing over the brilliance that is the sweetest husband and wife duo behind the project, the Mader’s (you see what they did there?). On Alma Mader’s website they note,

“In our tasting room, we imported a Czech side-pull faucet and our lagers are poured slow and with patience into beautiful 0.5l Rastal glassware. We slow pour so that we can have a hefty cap of foam on top of the beer that lasts the whole glass and protects the delicate aroma. Waiting a little bit longer for your beer is worth the time and effort that we put into giving you lager that we’re proud of.”

Their tasting room reopens May 15th and their location is consistently open Fridays at 3 for pickup only, and Saturdays at noon.

My go-to: El Dorado IPA

Mean Mule Distilling Co.

sunset stop

Talk about an instagram moment! Yee haw. Mean Mule Distilling is known for their bottled agave spirits, southwestern feeling tasting room, and agave lounge. While the interior is to die for, I prefer to sit outside and enjoy a sunset in the Crossroads with one of their seasonal cocktails in hand. Mean Mule hosts events and unique experiences throughout the week, including one of my favorites- $6 Mojito Wednesdays. During Covid, the distillery launched their at-home-cocktails kits, a perfect chance to enjoy their craft and create that high-end drink feel, minus the tension of being out just yet.

My go-to: Fairwinds off the seasonal menu, or a Paloma.

Can’t wait till the weekend? Here’s a link to their kits.

The Campground

gettin’ dark

After being closed for most of the pandemic, The Campground in the West Bottoms is finally open for outdoor service. Head over to live out your outdoorsy dreams- minus the dirt and bugs- obviously. Catch them on the right night and you may be accompanied by live music, or Stag Pizza- a local mobile Neapolitan dream. Their menu includes food options as well, which is ideal for the 3rd stop on our hop. Their burger and truffle fries are to die for. The interior of the unassuming dark green building is another damn good instagram moment, if of course you can get in. Make your reservations people!

My go-to: the Huntsman.

Panthers Place

it’s dark

Now I can’t lie to you, Panthers Place might just be my favorite on the list. If you have to choose just one for the night, this outdoor Westside experience is IT. There is no better way to do this spot than after a few drinks but before you tap out… enjoy seating tucked away in greenery covered spaces and lounge-out in front of their airstream. Not only do I give Panthers an A+ for their boho meets grunge feel and of course their cocktails, but an A++ for customer service. You can get fancy with my go-to, a mezcal cocktail or chill-out with a beer. Panthers is the place for running into friends and meeting soulmates.

My go-to: The Meowzcal.

Green Lady lounge

Nightcap

The most romantic of spots, Green Lady Lounge is THE nightcap bar. With live jazz every night of the week (mmhmm, yes, even Mondays), and a dark-lit traditional jazz club interior, Green Lady will transport you to a different era entirely. Take a peek at their live-music schedule on their website and partake in what feels like an ode to all those who bar-hopped before us!

My go-to: a Negroni.
