The Nest Varanasi Project is a vital one. Varanasi, a city in India, is one of the oldest living cities on Earth. For centuries, Indians of diverse backgrounds have converged upon Varanasi, drawn to its sacred waters, colorful streets, and hallowed grounds. Hand‐loomed Varanasi silk has been internationally sought‐after due to the highly skilled craftsmanship. For Indians, handloom was more than a means for profit: it was a cornerstone of personal livelihood, family life, and cultural pride.
This spring, a powerful tornado swept through Varanasi and damaged Loom to Luxury’s weaving center, a local business in Varanasi. Right now, funding for tornado repairs, as well as COVID-19 relief, PPE production, and business development support are needed. So Nest is helping. The nonprofit has launched a craft‐driven solution with Loom to Luxury. By assisting Varanasi artisans like Loom to Luxury, we can create new, consistent, and sustainable employment to bolster the economy and community.
Beyond the Nest Varanasi Project, we are long-time supporters of Nest. The nonprofit supports makers of handmade products and works to build a thriving handcrafted economy. Nest helps increase workforce inclusivity, provide sustainable livelihoods, and improve women's well-being. It promotes beautiful handmade products while protecting cultures. It works with 1,100+ artisan businesses across 110+ countries. And this weekend, we are joining forces with them.

We obviously need an ornament to commemorate 2020, and we are guessing you might too. This beautiful Loom to Luxury limited-edition mask gift set includes a 2020 mask ornament, plus one adult handwoven silk mask. Keep both for yourself, gift just the ornament or the mask, or gift both. 100-percent of proceeds support the Nest Varanasi Project.
The gift set is inspired by 14-year-old Riley Martin's idea to help Loom to Luxury recover from tornado damage to their weaving center. Jane Ehinger, Lauren Merriman, and Riley’s mother Julie Martin - all Nest junior board members - teamed up with Loom to Luxury to create these limited-edition holiday gift sets. The Varanasi-based business is committed to ensuring the rich tradition of weaving continues, which supports the livelihoods of many.
