Just popping in to give a round of applause to some of my absolute favorite, outstanding small businesses here in KC.

Happy shopping y’all… you won’t be able to resist.

Locust floral, by sarah stracke

Sarah Stracke, the sweetest of souls, has a passion for flowers and the community that surrounds them. Her creative direction and floral design studio based here in KC specializes in creating “arrangements that feel like the earth.” Honestly, I just want to be surrounded by her work at all times. Stracke provides arrangements for weddings, events, editorial shoots, as well as installations. This floral artist is truly the real deal.

baba’s pantry, by baba & family

Just the thought of this little shop makes my heart sing! From the falafel to the shawarma to every delicious hummus moment in between. Nothing beats this authentic Palestinian-American experience, or the friendly faces of Baba and his crew. Expect a free glass of Turkish coffee- or three, and a “stay a while” space.

my go-to order: a chicken shawarma wrap with whatever toppings Baba says are “just right!”

Duet, by emily reinhardt & sasha santillan

When I think of Duet I think “crafty,” crafty in the most luxurious and beautiful way possible. Let me tell you, this power duo has brought a unique selection of home goods and useful tools to Kansas City that are unlike any other. Emily Reinhardt is the face and hard working hands behind The Object Enthusiast- resident artist featured throughout the 18th street shop, and Sasha Santillan- has just added the cutest tile addition to the space (go check the gram). With a gallery and studios within, 517 E 18th holds endless opportunity for browsing.

House of palm, by dante walton & chanel katarina

House of Palm founders Dante and Chanel are not only the cutest couple in the world but the most talented pair of thrifters. With an Instagram presence that transports you to what seems like a luxurious beach house in Morocco… it’s hard to pass up their curated selection of vintage burlwood and leather goods. Plus, all those light fixtures? Come on! Save some for the rest of us!

No really… tell us all your sourcing secrets, we’re begging you!

Café ollama, by Francisco Murguia & Lesley Reyes

Having worked in coffee, I can be a bit of a snob. Okay… you got me… I’m always a snob when it comes to my coffee and the space its provided to me in. But let me tell ya, this Latin-American shop in the Crossroads is EVERYTHING. From the bold and beautiful Hispanic representation on the walls of art, to the delicious natural ingredients of each wonderful cup- there is no doubt a weekly stop is in your future.

My go-to cup: The Tia Rosa
