URBAN CAFE KC

Urban Cafe offers the freshest vegan and vegetarian cuisine. It’s reopened and hosting a Father’s Day brunch this Sunday from 9am-2pm. Owners Justin and Rashaun Clark built Urban Cafe on the belief that eating a clean, healthy diet can help everyone, after seeing how it helped Justin’s mom beat colon cancer. In an article in Fast Casual, Rashaun said, “Basically, we just saw that natural medicine working, and with Justin being such a great chef, we knew he could create really good dishes that also looked pretty that people would want to eat.”

KING’S TABLE RESTAURANT

Voted best soul food in Kansas City, this Black owned family business is located off of Prospect Avenue and is open from 6am-6:30pm seven days a week. In 2016, Carlos White, who was operating a soul-food catering company called King’s Table (the name is taken from a Biblical verse in 2 Samuel 9:13), leased the building, creating a spotlessly clean bistro with ten stools, five booths and four tables. White does most of the cooking—that includes baking all the desserts, the hot-water cornbread, the cheesy lasagna, and the hot biscuits that come with the hearty breakfasts he serves all day. White’s restaurant is one of the few that still serves chitterlings (boiled pork intestines) and tender oxtails, in addition to the big cheeseburgers, meatloaf, tender baked chicken with dressing and fried pork ribs.

“You can eat like a king here, but you wont pay to eat like one” - Carlos White
