Six Ways to Easter Egg
Words by: Maggie Laubscher | Music by: Abby Yemm
‘Tis the season, Nellies: time to get your egg decorating game on. We love this craft every year because it can be whatever we want it to be. Quick or involved, easy or challenging, minimalist or maximalist.
Easter is a reminder of life and abundance, and eggs fit right in. Egg decorating is playful and chill, with no mistakes that matter. We love the transience of it, that it only lasts for a short bit of time.
Below, we’ve rounded up our favorite designs to try. All of these are easy, kit-free and doable this weekend without much planning. Here’s to a happy and mellow Easter weekend!
These onion skin eggs won us over at first sight. The look is a stunning, warm palette of reds and browns and the process is natural and easy. To make, gather eggs, onions, white vinegar, and olive oil. The recipe is by Sara Kate Gillingham of The Kitchn. Sara offers cool takes on egg decorating every year and we always love her creations. Click here for instructions. Oh, and for the leftover onions, pickle them in two minutes :).
We love a non-paint egg and this one is très cute. To make the pom-pom bunnies, gather pipe cleaners, eggs, craft glue, ribbon, and pom-poms. Read the full instructions here.
These Kool-Aid eggs have a Jackson Pollock vibe that we love. To make, gather Kool-Aid, eggs, paper towels, a baking sheet, and a cooling rack. We found them on the blog Freutcake. Get full instructions here.
These dyed robin eggs are magical and otherworldly. They’re also a natural craft option. To make, gather white eggs, red cabbage, white vinegar, edible metallic gold paint and an old toothbrush. The creation is from Honestly Yum, which has a ton of other creative ideas as well. Click here for the full instructions.
These Easter eggs are twee and very Beychella. To make, gather Baby’s Breath stems or a similar flower from your garden, plus wire, scissors, eggs, and a permanent marker. You could also swap the flowers for small craft beads. For instructions, click here.
Modern and chic, these Pantone eggs made us look twice. To make, gather eggs, food coloring, vinegar, and a permanent marker or tattoo paper. Click here for instructions.
