4th of July

By: Maggie Laubscher

Happy 4th, Nellies! We hope this weekend is filled with peace, love and good food for you. Count the stars, sleep in, sip a cocktail or mocktail. We will be doing the same. Our plans also include lighting sparklers, FaceTiming our favorite people and taking the weekend off cooking. We are eyeing the below local restaurants to support and devour. It’s a win-win.

Caffetteria

Caffetteria is one of our go-to spots for grab and go family meals. It offers everything you need and then some. For the 4th, it’s offering a Cajun shrimp boil meal for up to six people. We also love the jalapeño hibiscus margarita carafe, if you feel like adding that to your cart :).

The Russell

The Russell makes incredible farm-to-table food. Easy to-go meals we love include the salad for four, the smoked heirloom tomato gazpacho soup, 1/2 whole roasted chicken, grilled veggie sides, and lime cardamom macaroons. Their gluten-free bourbon chocolate brownie is also perfection. When you place your order, you can include bottles of Pellegrino and wine to complete your meal.

Wings Cafe

Wings Cafe makes a wonderful Caesar salad and offers an array of family meals, including party platters with fish, wings and shrimp included, set shareable meals with chicken wings, strips and sides, as well as oversize orders available of baked beans, green beans, chicken wings, sweet potato fries and more.

Ça Va

Be still our hearts, oh how we adore Ça Va. The wine bar is serving an adorably named ‘let frosé ring’ in honor of 4th of July, so we can all enjoy their frozen wine slushes in carry-out form.

The Local Pig

The Local Pig has some of the best meat, condiments and other delectables. You can order ready to heat and eat food, such as chicken pot pies and pork carnitas. Another good option is the smoked ham hock, charcuterie fixings sold by the pound and bake-at-home baguettes.

Gates BBQ

A classic KC option, head to Gates BBQ to order your party trays, meat by the pound, classic BBQ beans, cole slaw and other sides. Oh, and please don’t forget the seasonal fruit pie - it’s always a good decision.

Bluestem

This beautiful American restaurant truly does it up right. Consider ordering from Bluestem for the shrimp & grits, saffron succotash, pork loin with grilled pineapple coulis (!!), cheese platter, cherry tarts or other goods. It’s also highly recommended (by us!) to add the Iris pinot noir rose from Willamette Valley to your order. You’re welcome.

Mesob Restaurant

Mesob Restaurant is so fresh and so good. Among the Ethiopian and Caribbean cuisine options, we are very into the braised oxtail, jerk ribs, vegan paella, fried plantains with spicy coleslaw, curry shrimp and upside-down pineapple cake.

Charisse

Charisse has wonderful pickup dish options, including chèvre salad, summer bolognese, Faroe Island salmon with roasted summer vegetables and more. For dessert, it would be fun to order individual pot de creme portions for your crew.

Kansas City Cupcake Co. Cafe

Order a celebratory breakfast for everyone in your household! Kansas City Cupcake Co. Cafe offers cinnamon rolls, breakfast burritos, quiche and more. And of course, the cupcakes! You can order a variety of cupcakes for pickup or delivery, including a gluten-free carrot cake that we can’t wait to try.
